A brief presentation of the Scientific Association
The Hellenic Association for Gestalt Therapy (HAGT) was founded in June 2002 as a Scientific Association and is a non-profit organization.
HAGT is the official and exclusive body for the certification of professional competence of Gestalt Psychotherapists in Greece, as it is the only national scientific association for Gestalt therapy approved and accredited by the relevant European body: the European Association for Gestalt Therapy (EAGT).
According to its statutes, the central purpose of the association is to create a common scientific union of Gestalt psychotherapists, training centers, and organizations engaged in Gestalt therapy in Greece, with main goals and fields of action including, among others:
- the official and exclusive representation of the European Association for Gestalt Therapy (EAGT) in Greece
- the scientific union of natural and legal persons, organizations, and associations of all types and forms that are active in Greece in the field of Gestalt therapy and its practical applications
- the promotion and safeguarding of good and proper practice in the application of Gestalt therapy
As such, the association is solely responsible for maintaining the theoretical and practical standards set by the European Association for Gestalt Therapy (EAGT) regarding the training of psychotherapists, supervisors, and trainers, as well as the provision of Gestalt therapy services to the public.
In addition, the association has the authority “to intervene in cases of appeals concerning malpractice,” in accordance with the Code of Ethics and the Certification Regulations, which are based on the criteria set by the European Association for Gestalt Therapy (EAGT).
The Hellenic Association for Gestalt Therapy is the official and exclusive representative in Greece of the European Association for Gestalt Therapy (EAGT), with more than 4,000 members across Europe (www.eagt.org), and at the same time is a member of the National Organization for Psychotherapy of Greece (NOPG) (www.nopg.gr) and the International Association for the Advancement of Gestalt Therapy (IAAGT) (iaagt.org).
